Fokker F27
Fokker F27 Friendship is a turboprop airliner designed and built by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker.
Design of the Fokker F27 started in the 1950s as a replacement to the successful DC-3 aircraft. The manufacturer assessed a number of different configurations before finally decided on a high wing twin Rolls-Royce Dart engines with a pressurized cabin for 28 passengers.
The first prototype, registered PH-NIV, flew first on 24 November 1955. The second prototype and initial production machines were 0.9 m (3 feet) longer, addressing the first aircraft's easy-tail-heavy handling and also provides room for four passengers, giving a total of 32nd These aircraft also used the more powerful Dart Mk 528 engine.
The first production model, F27-100, delivered to Aer Lingus in November 1958th Other early customers included Friendship Braathens SAFE, Luxair, Ansett, Trans Australia Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
In 1956 Fokker signed a licensing agreement with the American aircraft manufacturer Fairchild for the latter to construct the F27 in the U.S.. The first US-built aircraft flew on 12 April 1958. Fairchild also independently developed a stretched version, called FH-227. Most sales were made by Fairchild in the North American market.
At the end of the Fokker F27's production in 1987, had built 793 units (including 207 in the USA by Fairchild), making it the most successful West European civilian turboprop aircraft.
Many aircraft have been modified from passenger to cargo or express package freighter roles and remaining in service in 2009.
In the early 1980s developed a successor to Fokker Friendship, the Fokker 50th Although based on the F27-500 Fokker 50 hull is almost a new aircraft with Pratt & Whitney Canada engines and modern systems. Its overall performance and passenger comfort has improved in F27.
